Sandra J. Dexter AE ~ Editorial Services
My mission is improve the content and presentation of your writing project.
— Beautiful and unique life stories and family histories.
— Clear, consistent and finely honed theses and dissertations.
I believe these life projects deserve focus, attention to detail, and time to do the job well.
I fell sideways into editing after completing an arts degree, majoring in journalism and literature. My first job was researching, writing and editing a newsletter where I discovered a flair for editing. I love making writing clear, accurate and accessible for the reader.
This expanded into freelance editing and proofreading annual reports, advertising copy, tender proposals, business publications, magazines and non-fiction books. Subjects have ranged wildly from forensic accounting to football, sugar flowers to shiatsu, recipes to regulations. My formatting skills in Word and Indesign grew along the way, and helped my creative side bloom.
I have worked as editor of a media guide, a senior editor with Thomson Legal and Regulatory, publications officer at the University of Melbourne Law School, and proofread legislation at the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel.
Since 2011 I have worked on all aspects of biography (interviewing, transcribing, editing and format) for the award-winning Eastern Palliative Care biography program. I also have edited and formatted their volunteer teaching manuals.
Other work includes:
Bachelor of Arts (Journalism & Literature) Deakin University
Awarded Robert McDonald prize for outstanding journalism graduate
Accredited Editor, Institute of Professional Editors (Australia) since 2012
Palliative care trained biography volunteer, Eastern Palliative Care since 2011
